In 1987, Canon, a leader in the world of digital and photography imaging solutions, founded Canon Marketing (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. This was done to offer direct product and service support to Malaysian consumers. Canon aspires to facilitate cooperation for the greater good by streamlining processes and providing customers with useful solutions.
Masato Yoshiie, President & CEO of Canon Marketing Malaysia, expressed pride in having the EOS Masters represent the brand, emphasizing their alignment with Canon’s commitment to innovation and their integral role in inspiring a new wave of passion among Malaysian photographers and videographers. Edward Chang, Head of Image Communication Business Division at Canon Marketing Malaysia, also reiterated the company’s confidence in the EOS Masters’ ability to support Malaysia’s creative sector. He further highlighted their commitment to enriching the local creative industry and contributing to community development, emphasizing Canon’s role in making a lasting impact on Malaysia’s photography and videography landscape.
Canon’s 2024 EOS Master Initiative:
Canon proudly unveils its 2024 lineup of EOS Masters, continuing its tradition of championing photography and videography in Malaysia. The following announcement took place at Astana, Bamboo Hills. It signified Canon’s commitment to collaboration and enlightenment in the digital imaging community. The EOS Master initiative, launched last year, also aims to facilitate interactive engagement between creative individuals, from beginners to professionals, and seasoned experts in Malaysia.
The EOS Master Lineup And Profiles:
This year’s lineup features 17 distinguished photographers and videographers renowned for their significant contributions to the creative industry. Selected for their diverse expertise and unwavering passion for creativity, these Masters represent various disciplines. They are:
Koh Chee Hong (Andrew Koh)
Andrew Koh is a skilled and experienced wedding photographer with a friendly and fun personality. He was also an official trainer for the Canon EOS Academy in Malaysia, as well as a member of WPPI and WPE. Andrew excels at capturing candid expressions and emotions in natural settings. He also has the talent of getting the people he works with ready to fully enjoy the moment. He is skilled at anticipating important moments during weddings and capturing them through changing perspectives and allowing his subjects enough space to act naturally. Andrew also creates a relaxed atmosphere for things to unveil themselves, resulting in fun-filled shots that allow one to truly live in the moment.
Barathan A/L Amuthan (Barathan Amuthan)
Barathan Amuthan is a highly skilled and experienced photographer with a strong background in the creative arts. He has received numerous accolades, including the title of Canon EOS Youth Ambassador Malaysia as well as PPAM Certification as an “Advance Photographer”. Barathan has gained a reputation as a proficient photographer with over a decade of experience in the industry. His work has been widely published, and has appeared in various magazines, on social media, and on company websites. Barathan is versatile and has shot a wide range of subjects, including celebrities. He has extensive experience capturing special moments at weddings and other events.
Baronia Abas
Baronia Abas, also known as Baron, is the creator and director of WolFang Digital, a training and filmmaking studio he founded in 1999. He also serves as the firm’s digital content manager. He is certified to instruct students in a variety of subjects, including drone operations, filming, and editing. In addition, Baron holds a scuba diving certification and focuses on taking pictures and videos underwater. Baron has more than 20 years of expertise in the industry as a director of photography. He conducts workshops for various government and foreign organizations around the nation to share his skills. Graduates of his courses attest that Baron has the ability to simplify even the most complex subjects, making his classes both pleasant and enlightening.
Yap Leng Foong (Bonnie Yap)
Bonnie is a professional photographer with extensive experience in the industry. Her work includes being a news and events photographer at The Star Publications, as well as shooting lifestyle shots for food, entertainment, and business magazines. She has since grown into a versatile photographer, working on a range of projects. She has also been commissioned by regional clients for photo shoots around the world. Bonnie was a Canon EOS Ambassador and was named one of Marie Claire’s Amazing Women of 2019. She has held two solo photo exhibitions. One was in 2013 which raised funds for a social welfare program and another in 2016 which raised funds for a renewable energy project.
Tan Chong Jing (CJ Tan)
Penang-based CJ Tan is a skilled videographer. Over the years, CJ has engaged with the many Penang communities while continuing to work as an IT engineer. He has produced over 200 multi-genre videos, including weddings, event highlights, and many more. His work for Bosch, Charis (South Korea), Hilton (Hang Zhou, China), and Canon Marketing Malaysia are a few of his most notable projects. Qualified as a Train the Trainer (TTT), CJ is enthusiastic about passing on his experiences to the next generation because he feels that “knowledge shared is power multiplied.”
Edwin Lay Say Kiong (Edwin Lay)
Edwin Lay is an experienced professional photographer and producer based in Kuching, Sarawak. He began his career as a wedding photographer in 2008. Dynamic and versatile, he is skilled in covering corporate events, automotive events, and extreme sports. Along with his team of photographers and videographers, he founded a production company called Reel FX Studio in 2016. He is actively conducting workshops with Canon Marketing Malaysia, various private corporations, and government agencies and institutions. Edwin has a diverse portfolio and has covered many major events for the government, local and international companies. He believes in continuous and dynamic skill development, creatively improving his works, and developing new talents in this industry.
Shahrul Fazry Bin Ismail (Fazry Ismail)
Fazry Ismail is the Chief Photographer for the European Pressphoto Agency (EPA) in Malaysia. He is also a talented photographer who earned 1st place in the general news category at the 2022 Picture of the Year International (POYi) competition. Graduated with a bachelor’s degree in photography at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), he has covered a variety of major news and sports events, including various Olympic Games, the Nanjing FIBA World Cup, the Hajj in Saudi Arabia, the APEC Summit in Papua New Guinea, and the Hong Kong protests in 2019. In addition to his professional photography work, Fazry is also an avid Street Trials and BMX enthusiast.
Mohd Fuad Bin Hamid (Fuad Stephan)
Fuad Stephan is a highly skilled and experienced professional photographer and videographer based in Alor Setar, Kedah. With a specialty in portrait photography, and landscape photography, Fuad is particularly skilled at capturing the beauty of the Milky Way and the rays of light. His dedication to producing high-quality images and videos that capture the beauty of the world around us has earned him a reputation as a talented and reliable professional.
Chia Joe Gee (Joe Chia)
Joe Chia, a seasoned professional photographer based in Penang. He brings over 12 years of expertise to the realm of corporate and events photography. His portfolio boasts collaborations with renowned brands like BMW, MINI, Motorrad, Harley-Davidson, and Ducati. Holding the title of Canon EOS Master under Canon Malaysia, Joe has consistently utilised Canon cameras for a decade, showcasing a profound mastery of his craft. Beyond his remarkable works, he conducts workshops and collaborates with various automotive brands. He has had the privilege of capturing the essence of more than 40 brands throughout his illustrious career.
Johnson Wee (Johnson)
Johnson Wee is Asia’s most awarded wedding photographer. Coming from a photography family (his grand uncle was a very famous portrait photographer in the 60’s), with multiple accolades under his belt, he is also Double Master of WPPI and Fellow of the BIPP & MPA, UK. Johnson was Canon’s ambassador and currently Profoto’s ambassador for his home country, Malaysia. He travels to the most fascinating locations in the corners of the globe to capture beautiful pre-wedding assignments for his clients. A veteran educator, he has also been invited by various photography organizations such as WPPI, MPA, SWPP, PWS for workshops, speaking assignments and also as judge for their annual competitions.
Fong Kin Leong (Kin Fong)
Kin is a dedicated and passionate bird photographer who is committed to sharing the beauty of Malaysia’s avian life with fellow Malaysians and the rest of the world. After being inspired by a visit to Fraser’s Hill, Kin began to focus on bird photography and has been sharing his images of Malaysian birds on his social media accounts. He has photographed at numerous popular birding locations within the country and is eager to expand his horizons by exploring bird photography abroad.
Liew Weng Keong (Liew WK)
Liew is a nature lover and experienced nature photographer based in Malaysia who has been actively involved in the field since 2006. His love for nature and his work has allowed him to spend an average of 250 days each year in the forest. This experience has helped him to develop a deep understanding and appreciation of the natural world. Through his journey as a nature photographer, Liew has gained the trust and support of many people. Nature photography is a central part of Liew’s life, and he is deeply dedicated to capturing the beauty of the natural world through his photographs.
Mohd Safuan bin Salahudin (Safuan Salahudin)
Safuan Salahudin is a talented photographer who was born and raised in Kedah. He began his full-time photography career in 2013 and has since achieved great success, winning numerous photography competitions. Safuan has also served as the official sports photographer for the Malaysian Football League since 2018. He has also been appointed as an international judge for the SIARGAO Worldwide Photo Contest in the Philippines for 2022. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Safuan was recently awarded a Tourism Selangor grant to publish an e-book on Selangor’s gastronomical delights. In his spare time, he is dedicated to sharing his knowledge and experience with photography enthusiasts through various workshops.
Nazri Bakar (Be Naz)
Nazri is a professional wedding photographer based in Kelantan, with a specialty in capturing the unforgettable moments of the couples’ special day. In addition to his expertise in wedding photography, Nazri is also the team leader of the Kelantan Photographer Network. It is a group of talented photographers in the region who collaborate and support one another in their craft. Nazri is dedicated to producing beautiful, timeless images that couples can cherish for years to come. He is also skilled at working both independently and as part of a team to achieve this goal.
Wan Mohd Fadzli Bin W. Samsudin (Palie Massa)
Wan Mohd Fadzli W. Samsudin, also known as Palie Massa, is a talented photographer who recently won first place in the portrait category at the VII Jalón Ángel International Photography competition. This competition was organized by San Jorge University in Spain. Palie is passionate about photography and is inspired by the depiction of people working in their daily lives. He believes that every life episode has a story behind it and is worth documenting through photography.
Danny Yen Sin Wong (Danny Wong)
Danny, a celebrated photographer from Seremban, boasts an illustrious award-winning career that spans over 600 international accolades since 2012. This earned him the prestigious title of Master of PSA (Photographic Society of America). Specialising in Travel, Wildlife and Human Interest photography. His passion extends beyond accolades, as he actively leads international photography trips to destinations like Kenya, Ethiopia, Vietnam, and China. Through these journeys, Wong shares his profound enthusiasm for capturing diverse cultures worldwide. This not only made him an accomplished photographer but also a passionate ambassador of the art form. Conducting photography workshops and embarking on thrilling photo trips, Wong’s extensive expertise consistently produces internationally acclaimed and awe-inspiring images.
Ipah Uid Lynn (Ipah)
Ipah, a Kuala Lumpur-based Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) Instructor and mother of six, is a globally acclaimed creative photographer. She is known for seamlessly blending art and life through Canon RF lenses. With over 23 prestigious international awards, her work graces prominent dive publications worldwide. She shares her expertise as a speaker at dive shows, educating audiences on the art of capturing vibrant underwater scenes. Beyond her artistic achievements, Ipah’s profound love for the underwater world fuels her mission to advocate for marine life conservation. Thus emphasising the significance of preserving marine ecosystems for future generations. As a sought-after speaker, Ipah passionately champions ocean conservation, utilising her photography to educate about the challenges facing our oceans. Her inspiring journey encapsulates a blend of motherhood, artistic talent, and unwavering environmental advocacy.
EOS Masters’ Skills
In addition to their accomplishments, the EOS Masters will serve as mentors. They will provide emerging Malaysian creators with the tools necessary to realize their imaginative concepts on the art of storytelling. Through a series of events, workshops, lectures, and exhibitions, they will also share their knowledge, techniques, and personal experiences. This will enable participants to refine their skills and reignite their excitement for the craft. The EOS Masters will act as brand ambassadors for Canon, highlighting the revolutionary powers of EOS products that conflate technology and art.
They hope to promote a feeling of community among camera enthusiasts. They also plan to drive innovation and progress in Malaysia by showcasing Canon’s range of cameras and lenses. Canon confirms its steadfast support for creative endeavors. They also aim to enable people to realize their unique visions. They offer priceless chances for aspiring creatives to refine their abilities and explore the boundless possibilities of digital imaging.
