There are about 196, 000 death toll throughout the nation
The millions of acres blackened by the wildfires has definitely threatened more than just the humans’ lives. More death toll, homes and possessions are destroyed, and the affected authorities have to work beyond their limit to secure the situation.
According to the National Interagency Fire Center, the wildfires in California, Oregon, and Washington state caused the death of 34 people at least. This number is also part of an outbreak that scorched more than 4.7 million acres in total. On top of that, the hurricane in the Southeast has created new potential pathways for the virus to spread further. In this situation, it would be harder for people to keep their distance from each other. This would lead to the widespread of COVID-19. Oh, no!
The concern right now would be crowded grocery stores and emergency shelters. But so far, the people in shelters are kept safe and protected from the infection of COVID-19 according to Dr Mark Ghaly, secretary of California Health and Human Services. Most of them are being isolated by themselves or with family members in hotel rooms.
Due to the wildfires through the Western United States, it has affected the ecosystems in the West critically. The critical population of endangered species and incinerated native habitats, which could take years to be recovered.
As Hurricane Laura is hitting the Gulf of Mexico hard, more than half a million people are being ordered to evacuate their premises. This includes Beaumont, Galveston, and Port Arthur. Best believe that this step is taken to protect the people from the widespread of COVID-19.
$20 billion and rising of the total loss
Yes, life is at stake currently. But the economic crisis is catching up as well. The total loss of fires and hurricane could be about $20 billion and the number should be increasing in time. That’s a lot 🙁
The situation is getting more complicated in the midst of the pandemic. We hope that affected ones will remain strong.
