What to Do in Canggu
Canggu offers so many ways to spend your time, whether you’re unwinding, sweating it out, or exploring new places by yourself. Here are the top things to check out:
1. Ride the Waves at Berawa Beach
Whether you’re a beginner or a pro, Berawa Beach is the ideal spot to catch some waves. Grab a board, hit the surf, and make some new friends while you’re at it.
Surfing in Bali for the first time? Trust me, the beach you choose can make or break your confidence as a beginner! While Batu Bolong often gets the nod for newcomers, I couldn’t help but gravitate toward the softer, more forgiving vibes of Berawa Beach. Its sandy bottom feels like a warm hug compared to the coral-lined shores of Batu Bolong, which frankly added an extra layer of stress I didn’t need. Timing my dismount to avoid damage—both to myself and my board? No, thank you. Berawa’s chill energy became my go-to for learning and finding my groove.
What began as a simple stab at something new quickly transformed into my ultimate solo retreat. My instructor, Tono, dropped some nugget-of-gold wisdom during one of my many failed attempts to pop up on the board. His words? “Clear your mind and just do it.” It hit me harder than a breaking wave. Life, work, and everything in between often have us tangled in endless decision-making—churning thoughts, hesitation, and fear. But surfing? It’s gloriously straightforward. When a wave rolls in, you either catch it, or you don’t. No pause button, no mental gymnastics—just beautifully simple decision-making in motion.
Surfing became my sanctuary—a blissful escape from the mental noise of a jam-packed work life.
Maybe that’s why I’ve fallen head over heels for it. With every session—whether it’s my fifth beginner lesson or my fifteenth—it’s just me, my board, and the vast blue. The rhythmic dance of the waves is my reset button, silencing the chaos and grounding me in the present. No overthinking or second-guessing, only the here and now. It’s a connection to something bigger, something freeing. And honestly? I can’t imagine a better way to spend a solo day in Bali.

2. Hang Out at Chic Beach Clubs
Canggu’s beach club scene is next-level! Don’t miss popular spots like Atlas, Cafe Del Mar,Mari Beach Club and Finns. Sip on a tropical cocktail while you soak in those stunning sunsets—solo but never lonely!
Among all, my fave pick is Mrs Sippy! While it’s not perched directly on the beach, the vibe is absolutely unbeatable. Picture this—travelers from all over, great energy, and the kind of music that keeps your mood lifted all day long. Oh, and if you’re feeling adventurous, don’t miss out on their iconic 5-meter jumping platform—perfect for making a splash (literally and emotionally)!

Here’s what you need to know:
- Entrance Fee: IDR 100,000 per person for pool access
- Towel Rental: IDR 50,000 (Psst! Outside towels aren’t allowed).
- Daybed Minimum Spend: IDR 2,000,000
Food? Delicious. Music? Spot-on. Crowd? Always buzzing. And yes, Mrs Sippy is child-friendly! But heads up, kiddos must leave by 5 PM because that’s when the party atmosphere really kicks off!
Either you’re here to chill, socialize, or jump into all the fun (literally), Mrs Sippy has something exciting for everyone!

3. Roam Around with Gojek
Get yourself a trusty Gojek bike and cruise around Canggu. Exploring the area on two wheels is thrilling and an absolute must for adventurous solo travelers.
4. Dine Like a Foodie
Canggu isn’t just about beaches—it’s a food lover’s dream.
Revolver Coffee for your caffeine fix in a vibey setting.
It’s always a party vibe in Canggu, and Revolver is no exception! Whether you’re easing into the day or ready to jumpstart it with flair, this popular spot has you covered.
Don’t miss their Croissant Eggs Benny—it’s a culinary must-try! And who says it’s too early for a margarita? Not me! But if you’re anything like me and can’t start the day without caffeine, their coffee is an absolute game-changer.
Expect to spend around IDR 150k per person for a meal and coffee—a small price for a slice of Canggu’s vibrant dining scene.

Baked for scrumptious pastries and breakfast delights.

When I think of Baked, memories of buttery croissants and perfectly brewed coffee often come to mind. However, my recent visit to their Seminyak location didn’t quite live up to the hype. While their Berawa branch still holds a special place in my heart, I decided to stop by the Seminyak outlet during a day of exploring and shopping in the area. The experience, though, left me feeling a little underwhelmed.
Baked is a go-to spot for its Instagram-worthy atmosphere and a menu that usually promises to please. Unfortunately, on this trip, the coffee seemed to lack its characteristic boldness, and the croissant – often a masterpiece of flakiness – fell just a little short of its usual mark.
Perhaps it was an off day, or maybe my expectations were just too high after previous visits. Either way, while I’ll still cherish my fond memories of Baked in Berawa, it’s safe to say the Seminyak experience has prompted me to keep my future visits dialed in to my favorite location.
If you’re in Seminyak and craving a great coffee experience, it might be worth seeking out a different café hotspot. Meanwhile, for die-hard Baked fans, the Berawa location continues to deliver everything you love about the brand!
Quick Tip for Travelers:

No visit to Bali is complete without indulging in the iconic Bebek Goreng—crispy fried duck that’s a true Balinese specialty. The perfectly seasoned, golden-brown duck paired with traditional sambal and sides is an experience your taste buds won’t forget.
Bebek Tepi Sawah Ubud
For an unforgettable dining experience surrounded by jaw-dropping views, head to the Ubud branch. Nestled amidst lush greenery and tranquil vibes, this spot lets you relish your Bebek Goreng while soaking in the stunning beauty of Bali’s natural landscape.
Pro tip: Time your visit around sunset for magical golden-hour views to elevate your dining experience even further!
Drive a little further to experience Nasi Tempong, a spicy local favorite you just have to try!
If you’re all about immersing yourself in fiery local flavors, this spot should be on your list! Known among the locals for serving up some seriously spicy dishes, it’s a challenge for the brave-hearted (and spice lovers) only. If heat isn’t your thing, you might want to sit this one out. But if you’re ready to conquer the spice, prepare to indulge in hot white rice with crispy fried ayam or perfectly cooked crispy gurame fish, paired with their legendary sambal.

Add to your plate fried tempeh and tauhu some ulam—a refreshing assortment of local veggies—that beautifully complements the sambal prawn petai, a must-try for any culinary adventurer. Fair warning, though—this meal packs serious heat, so arm yourself with a few bottles of water (or your favorite drink) because it’s going to be one fiery ride!
