On October 6, Malaysia recorded the highest number for COVID-19 cases, 691 in total. The news shocked the nation. In average, the cases would be hovering around 300 a day in the past days. Not good 🙁
There were a lot of clusters going on and the highlight was the Sabah cluster recently. Too bad the election had to be done anyway. From that, it causes the virus to spread even wider. Six people died in Sabah. Even though those who were returning from Peninsular Malaysia had undergone the COVID-19 test at the airport, the damage was pretty much done already. Some refuse to self-quarantine at home as to how they should be upon returning.

As of yesterday, there was a total of 561 positive cases of COVID-19 and two deaths. 90% of the result comes from the cluster in Sabah.

The timeline
- Suria KLCC – On 23 September 2020, a member of a gym in the mall tested positive for COVID-19. Those who had close contact with the affected member had done the COVID-19 test. Also, they were instructed to self-quarantine at home. Amazingly, the results turned out negative. And yes, the mall undergoes the proper sanitization to maintain high levels of cleanliness and hygiene.
- The LINC KL – On 24 September 2020, the mall announced that a parent of a child from the LINC school was tested positive for COVID-19. The good news is that the student last attended the school on September 17, and on a half-day program. Even so, the operation had taken all necessary preventive measures to lower the risk of exposure. Due to that, the mall continued its operation, as usual, on the 25 September 2020.
- KL Gateway Mall – On 25 September 2020, there was a confirmed case in Menara Suezcap. Sanitation and disinfecting were properly done as soon as the news was out. Thankfully, the person who was in close contact with a COVID-19 patient took the test and the result was negative.
- Sunway Pyramid – On 26 September 2020, a Nike retail worker was tested positive for COVID-19. The mall didn’t close down temporarily but proper sanitization, disinfection, and deep cleaning were done throughout the premises.
- NU Sentral – On 26 September 2020, one of the mall’s management team was tested positive for COVID-19. A proper test was given out to the rest of the employees which resulted in negative for the virus. They were all required to be self-quarantined for 14 days after that. And the mall received a thorough sanitization throughout the premises.
- Paradigm Mall – On 3 October 2020, one of the mall’s stores staff has tested positive for COVID-19. This happened because his roommate who returned from Sabah was affected by the virus. Due to that, he had been on medical leave. Of course, the proper measures were taken to stop the risk of the virus from spreading.
- 1 Utama Shopping Mall – On 5 October 2020, an Estee Lauder staff has tested positive for COVID-19. As result, the staff has been in a government hospital for the proper healing process. And, the staff’s co-workers were instructed to self-quarantine for precaution. A thorough sanitization was done throughout the premises.
- Setia City Mall – On 8 October 2020, a member of the mall’s the Fitness First team has self-declared to be positive for COVID-19. The rest of the team who was on duty took the test and undergoes a 14-day self-quarantine at home. The deep cleaning process was done at the premises and especially at the gymnasium center.
- Bangsar Shopping Centre – On 11 October 2020, Origani’s retail staff was involved in the COVID-19 case. She was on duty on October 6 and didn’t show any major symptoms. However, she was off duty ever since. The proper measures were taken for sanitization and disinfection.
- The Gardens Mall (TGM) and Mid Valley Megamall (MVM) – On 11 October 2020, the nation was surprised with another news of the COVID-19 case hitting the malls. An employee of the London Sales Cosmetics Sdn Bhd has tested positive for the virus. It all began when her family member was affected as well. As a result, she reported the news on October 9 and self-quarantine ever since that. The malls have undergone a thorough sanitization for precautious.
In result, famous shopping malls are being closed down until further notice.
