The Malaysian government recently announced that with the end of MCO 2.0, tourists are now allowed to travel to and within RMCO states. However, privately owned cars are not allowed – which means you must apply to travel with a tour agency that is registered under the tourism ministry.
“This is so that each passenger does not need to apply for police permission,” said Senior Minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
“The journey must be between RMCO areas only. However, any journey that requires crossing areas under conditional MCO (CMCO) is permitted but the buses are not allowed to stop when inside such areas.”
Police had advised that private cars would be hard to monitor, while bus companies and hotels accepting tourists would be giving their data to the ministry, making it easier to track and manage.
States under RMCO are Melaka, Pahang, Terengganu, Sabah, Putrajaya, Labuan, Perlis and Langkawi.
