My plan to look stylish amidst UNESCO World Heritage site didn’t turn out as good as I wanted it to be.
Born as a half-Javanese girl, I’ve always loved the other side of me. The delicious food, beautiful language and especially the traditional style, like really, what’s not to love! My latest trip to Indonesia before the Movement Control Order was very meaningful. I had the chance to explore one of the seven wonders in the world, Borobudur Temple in Central Java with my family. All in all, it was a trip filled with endless laughter, nursery rhymes (contributed by my nieces and nephew, of course) and nerve-wracking moments, from the locals’ driving skills.
As cliche as it sounds, it’s best to do research of the places that you’re going to. The weather, amenities and everything! Like literally! Fortunately for me, I was lucky to be travelling with a sister who is a walking Wikipedia (free tour guide lol). And the best part is… she takes ah-mazing #ootd willingly (I hope so).
I knew that it was going to be a sunny day, yet I chose to wear the type of outfit. I had my fedora hat on, a casual black dress, which was layered with traditional print outerwear, draped a long necklace around my neck and finished it off with a pair of sandals. Bad choice of wardrobe! So, I ended up finding ways to cool off during my tour at Borobudur temple because of the crazy layering. Please don’t repeat my mistake. Like Coco Chanel once said, “Fashion has two purposes, comfort and love.” If I could turn back time, I would’ve dressed appropriately – a combination of comfortable pieces with a pinch of style.
Trust me, walking under the blazing hot sun was such a party pooper. It felt like a rain fest underneath my outfit. BUT THEN AGAIN, IT WAS All WORTH IT! So if you are planning to travel to the hotpot Borobudur temple, here are some styling tips that you should consider.
#1
Keep it simple
Avoid too much layering – hat, outerwear, necklace and/or ring. After all, less is more, right?
#2
Gear up
Sports shoes? I hope that it’s already on your list. Take it as a mini-workout going up and down the steep stairs. For a “gym freak” like me, I definitely can relate to it.
#3
Breathable pieces
You WILL sweat a lot. Do wear cooling fabric undergarment and clothes to feel as cosy as possible – cotton, bamboo or spandex.
#4
Fashionable shield
A hat? Yes, please! It works best if you’re not the type of person who likes to carry an umbrella around.
#5
Move around freely
Sling bag and backpack are good options to be carrying around. It’s great to keep all of your important items in place too. Make sure to position it in front of you at all times during your tour. It’s a crowded area, so better be safe than sorry.
Minimalist is the key! Don’t over do it like I did. You will thank me later 🙂
