I gotta tell you, I was a bit skeptical about Vietnamese food cus I knew only two types of cuisine – Pho & Bahn Mi before my trip to Hoi An. And this trip has changed my perception of Vietnamese food and they are all so freaking delicious! I have to say different from other places I have been to in Asia, maybe because it has so many influences from nearby countries like China and France.
I can’t tell you enough about how much I loved the street food in Hoi An. It’s cheap (a big plus), fresh, and delicious! If you are interested in trying Vietnamese cuisine while visiting Hoi An make sure to try banh mi sandwiches (pronounced “ban-mee”). These are an incredible combination of French baguettes stuffed with meat, vegetables, or tofu along with fresh herbs like cilantro and pickled carrots that add tangy flavors to each bite!
The Best Pho Noodles and Bahn Mi in Vietnam
Another great thing about Ho Chi Minh City is that there are plenty of restaurants offering traditional Vietnamese dishes such as pho noodle soup made from rich beef broth infused with spices such as star anise pods that give it an earthy aroma when added inside this savory dish. Bánh mì sandwiches are made with different types of meat: grilled chicken skewers served with tons sauce; bún thịt nướng which translates into noodles topped with grilled pork chops served on vermicelli noodles seasoned just right before being garnished by basil leaves. Please note that you can opt for beef or chicken if you don’t eat pork.
We love Hoi An Street Food
If you want to enjoy street food like how the locals do in Hoi An, do yourself a favor and hire a street food tour guide. We had one for our trip to Hoi An, and he was the best guide I’ve ever had. He was so knowledgeable about everything we saw, from the history of the old city to tasting the best food of Hoi An.
Price : USD49$
Tour includes : Food passport complete with the food details and the street food tour map. On top of that, you will be given a bag and also a pair of chopsticks to enjoy the food. Then you can return both the bag and chopsticks at end of the trip. The food passport is for you to keep.

Bahn Mi Phuong
Address: 2B Phan Chau Trinh, Hoi An 560000, Vietnam
Anthony Bourdain gave his approval and you have to try the best Bahn Mi, not just in Hoi An but in Vietnam! Busy time will force you to queue for a while but trust us, it’s worth the wait.
The Bahn Mi is a popular sandwich filled with pork meat. However, in this restaurant, there are varieties of other options that you can choose if you don’t eat pork, like me! I had it with grilled chicken. My oh my, never had a sandwich this good in my life. The bread is crunchy but not hard, just perfect for our last meal of the day. And I had been craving Bahn Mi ever since back home.
Dine-in or takeaway?
There are plenty of tables available but most probably you have to wait because this Bahn Mi Phuong is hardly empty. I had it in the restaurant but I also saw a couple of tourists order the sandwich for takeaway.
