Have you ever been harassed or discriminated against?
Working in a male-dominated workplace is no joke. From oil and gas to construction, and now as a resort owner – it’s been quite the journey! I’m often seen as an outspoken person who won’t take any nonsense, but even I can find myself subjected to unfair treatment at times. In service roles like hospitality, there are always going to be difficult experiences; whether that’s customers making unjustified complaints or competitors negatively influencing reviews on Google. There have certainly been moments when my emotions overwhelmed me and I had to cry in the car or vomit due to stress brought on by people willing to do anything for their own success – including backstabbing, belittling and general doubt-casting. However, despite all of this adversity, I remain confident that with faith in Allah’s will my ambition will eventually be realised.
